What to prepare for the proposal day?

Image
Stay true, stay gold Before starting planning the details of your proposal, you first need to have a gauge on whether the lady is ready. Both of you should have talked about marriage and have an mutual understanding/ agreement on your plans for the future. It is also important to give the lady's parents heads-up before the proposal as a sign of respect. First things first, you should have a location in mind. Read my previous post for more ideas. 💡 Next, you will need to plan out the flow of events/ timeline for yourself and your helpers to successfully roll out the proposal. Some key items to think about: What do you plan to do before the surprise proposal? You want to make it seem like a really casual day out so it shouldn't have any suspicious components. What do you plan to do during the proposal itself? The cliche but touching guitar-and-song proposal or kneeling down on your knees with a heartfelt message and promise for the future?  What you plan to do after...

Where to pop the question?

Image
Woohoo, it’s finally the time! 🎉 First and foremost, you need to decide on the theme of your proposal and secure a venue. Do you want it to be an upscale one-in-a-lifetime experience or do you want it to keep it simple? It really depends on your preference and budget. For me, I firmly believe that a sincere and warm proposal that touches the heart is most important! I also believe that a simple proposal doesn’t mean that the location will be bad. Some places that I thought are nice: Memorable dating places Parks with lots of flowers/ near the sea (Gardens by the Bay, Botanic Gardens, parks) Restaurants (I quite like the idea of rooftop restaurants/ restaurants that overlook the cityscape, restaurants in parks are nice too) Tourist places (SEA Aquarium, Singapore Flyer) Overseas trip  Ideally, it should be at a location that is comfortable. You don’t want to have bad hair/ sweating/ extra nervous when you pop the question since you want the moment to be video reco...

You've found your perfect rings on Pinterest - now it's time to get out there to find and try them on! 😍 Below are some of the commonly asked questions on buying wedding rings and also my answers to them. Hopefully this can be of help to you. 😊 Where to find wedding rings? Ion Jewelry Street - whole stretch of jewelry retailers just outside Orchard MRT station (at least ten of them, side by side one another) Shopping centres  In general, the prices of rings for any jewelry brand won't differ by outlet location - so you don't have to worry if the location of the shop you're visiting seems to be a bit more atas than others.  How much should you expect to spend? If you're looking at buying the standard diamond ring - 1 diamond with no side embellishments, that is 0.5 carat, has a clarity of VS1-VS2, of colour grade between D-F, you can expect to spend about $4k. A set of wedding bands usually costs about $1.6k to $2k. Which retailers do you recommen...

Finding your perfect rings

Buying weddings rings is one of the most exciting time for girls (and hopefully for guys too)! You will need to buy 1 engagement ring (for the proposal) and 1 set of wedding bands (for the solemnization). 💕 How to get started? Find ring designs you like and those that you think will fit you best on Pinterest! This will help you narrow down your choices and save you time when you visit the shops later. Before you get started, take a look at this infographics to understand the different parts to an engagement ring. Infographics on engagement ring by Padis Jewelry More information on 4Cs of a diamond (From most important to least important) Cut: This is the most important factor to a diamond's sparkle. A diamond can have perfect clarity and colour grade, but still appear dull if it has a poor cut. A good cut is is neither too deep nor too shallow, and has balanced cuts within (look under the microscope). Colour: The colour grades are from D to Z and the lower the grade...

Considerations before applying for a new HDB flat

Image
It has become more challenging to get your ideal flat due to land constraints  and high demand for new flats (not just from young couples!). The current rule at HDB is that everyone can only choose 1 type of flat (e.g. 4-room) at 1 location (e.g. Kallang) at a time, and go through a balloting process, where if successful, then proceed with flat purchase. There are penalties for rejecting an offer along the way - such as forfeit in option fee/ downpayment and being given a lower priority for the next application (read penalties here ).  So, it's very important that you make a careful consideration so you won't regret your decisions later on!  Process for buying a new HDB flat You may like to check out this link or more details on the costs involved at each stage of the application.  What are some of the things to consider before applying for a flat? 1. Total cost of the flat (as well as your renovation and wedding expenses)  This is, of ...

Getting married - timeline of events

Congratulations on making the decision to get married to the love of your life! 💗😊  Getting married can involve a lot of preparation, research and admin work. The goal of this blog is to provide you a concise guide on the whole flow of events so you can have an easier and happier time crossing this very special milestone of your life! I’ll share with you all that I know, have learnt and my thoughts/ suggestions (if any).  Timeline of events leading up to wedding day 1. Applying for a flat You can choose to apply for HDB or private flats (condos). I would encourage you to apply for HDB flat because there's a really lot of money involved in getting married and even a HDB flat can be quite costly too (depending on the location and size of flat).  For HDB flats, you can choose to apply for Build-to-Order (BTO) flats, Sale-of-Balance (SBF) flats or resale flats. BTO and SBF flats are essentially new flats, just that BTO flats means that HDB has a plan to ...
